Little Englanders...or wankers as I like to call them

So, once again the good (sic) name of this country is undermined by a bunch of mindless thick jingoistic morons...and I don't mean our new crop of Tory and UKIP Euro MP's! Nope, Im referring to the fucking idiots parading as England fans and lobbing tables and chairs into bars and at people in Albufeira. I've never been to Portugal, and frankly Albufeira doesn't sound like my sort of place, but many thousands of law abiding Brits (which includes us English) go each year.Undoubtedly some will get pissed and have a ruck before getting nicked, they'd do that here in Nottingham or Southampton City Centres. But this lot seem intent on showing how macho, hard and funny they are and mistakenly believe their defending the honour of England in some sort of team handed bullshit pseudo-war. The Portuguese, as with the rest of Europe seem unfailingly warm and friendly to us but do our "fans" care? Do they bollocks! I am a football fan, I suffer for my love of the game when watching my beloved Chelsea, or my country England, but I don't feel the need to show my superiority by abusing other fans, or other countries, I just suffer and then get on with life.

So, those that are nicked - bang them up until the Tournament is over, freeze any assets they may have, then try them, jail them for say 3 years in Portugal, with remuneration for the costs to Portugal from all of their assets with the shortfall being made up by our Government. So, after 3 years they are deported, no passports re-issued for 20 years and they are also potless. Too hard? Tough shit!

Later, Grocerjack

What was that about most people being slightly left or right and not many true radicals?

Priceless

Lets not get confused here, I think Jack has been reading the Daily Mail.
Some England supporters have been involved in flare ups, so have Germans, Dutch, and others in isolated incidents but you need to tune in to foreign media to know this. There is no organized violence from England supporters as they ( the real thugs ) have been infiltrated by UK authorities and largely removed at airports and shipping ports and other exit routes.
Please get a grip on the real situation at hand, not the Daily Mail version where the world ends every day.
England and its people in Portugal are held in very high respect you would all do very well to put this into perspective.

2 Dutch people arrested, 4 Germans, no French, 45 English. I would never take a Daily Mail stance (big insult that) but the BBC pictures were real enough and it was English thugs ...not "fans" doing it. Fans watch and enjoy/suffer the game.It may happen anyway without the backdrop of footie but lets face it we do fuck all to stop them when even we're there at the scene , me included. All I am saying is those that are patently guilty, caught on camera, bang to rights deserve harsh(er) punishment. That does not make me a fucking facist, but nor am I a bleeding heart willing to let these idiots get away with it, here or abroad.

...oh yeah, and I did actually state that 1000's of law abiding people visit each year. But I am sick of seeing this at every football tournament and I think the punishment should actually act as a deterrent. I do not want to visit my European colleagues and friends feeling like I have to apologise for being English or British. On the media note, I never read the tabs, I am a bona fide Grauniad/Observer and Private Eye reader. The info I got was from BBC News 24, BBC 1, BBC 5Live and the BBC web site. Say what you like about the Beeb, but they genuinely give both sides to every story.

The news this morning reports that several thugs have been convicted in Portugal and one hooligan has been sentenced to 2 years. About bloody time.
The hooligan claims he was stiched up and wasn't even there (yeah right!) and, as always, "the police were heavy handed". The poor little lambs don't like it when the po-lice man tells them to stop throwing bottles and chairs and to stop spitting at passers by.
It's these kind of casual hooligans that need to be made an example of, as they are harder to identify and they make up the numbers for the hardcore organised thugs.

Absolutely spot-fucking-on Mick! There's too much of this bleeding heart "I/we/he was stitched up" crap going on. I agree the hard core element was effectively dealt with, but now the "casual" yob needs to be sorted as well.

Whether it is organised or not hooliganism is hooliganism..thugs are thugs..idiots are idiots. We are all being tarred with the same brush. Mr Albufeira going about his business doesn't care these "idiots" are a minority of this country. Two years doesn't really do it for me I'm afraid..probably out after one year..time to start saving for the next trip abroad for the World Cup/Euro whatever. I do believe passports should be confiscated..and not just football hooligans but anybody thinking they can visit a foreign country, drink themselves senseless and then do mindless acts of violence, assuming they can get away with because after all we are "British" and the Consulate will sort it out!

The point is that this is not a specific "English" problem, nor does it have any relation to football. The first point is proven if the grocer and Mick have ever attended an away game in Turkey, which I doubt you 2 armchair pundits/ranters have ever done. Secondly it is a social problem aggravated by alcohol of which the English mentality has never been addressed. We still live in a "guzzle it now" culture because of our draconian licensing laws.

It is anti social behaviour fuelled by booze and wet liberal lefties ( Gaurdian readers? )who have dismantled discipline in the UK. A generation of mindless drunk yobs have been bred by left wing let offs and wishy washy judges and laws that only protect the criminal. Now do you know why they act like they do? Lets hope the Portugese judicial system hammers them hard because back here they will get away scott free. The problem begins here and you pair of wankers know it and turn a blind eye as long as its not in your back yard.

Finally politics and football do not mix unless Sven becomes leader of the tory party, as no else will get us out of Europe quicker...

Errr....unless I'm mistaken, as a Grauniad/Observer reading , left leaning wet liberal whatever, I am still advocating harsh punishments for these twats. I'd extend that here in the UK as well, and I agree with the drinking culture comments. Yes it is our "un-liberal" harsh drink licensing laws that engender the "guzzle it now" culture you so eloquently describe. And "wishy washy" judges and let off laws survived and thrived under Thatch/Major, so don't give me any left wing blame bollocks. Our most right wing government did what to stop this? err..thats right Fuck all! In fact as I recall, this all kicked off big time during those halcion Thatch/Major years. Being a bit of a leftie Grauniad reader and believing in clamping down on drunken loutish behaviour (of which I may have partaken when younger, but didn't end up in table lobbing rioting) are not mutually exclusive. Keep the comments coming!

First of all to go back to my point of it being a social problem see today’s Times ( my paper of choice ) and see Gary Mann 47 of Faversham, Kent who has been convicted for 2 years for throwing a bottle and inciting a riot. This is the very man that rescues kiddies from burning bedrooms. Yep he is a fire fighter folks so what does that tell you?
A DRUNKEN DISRESPECTFUL YOBBISH CULTURE BRED AND THEN EXPORTED FROM LAWLESS BRITAIN.
It’s nothing to do with football that’s just the vehicle that’s been hi-jacked. If we dealt with the problem here for once and for all we would not be exporting arseholes like Mann.
Go to any pub in any town and you will find the same breed of animal currently in Portugal. Drunk on street corners, intimidating passers by, low-level crime, vandalism etc etc was it always this way? Arrest them and put them in court and up steps a team of do gooder social workers and other wet liberal lefties offering 25 reasons why A.N. Thug is the victim and is really a good boy ..Ahhhhh …just ask his fucking mum. The cops have few powers though I admit the ASBOs are helping but it took this government 7 years to bring it in. But don’t worry some lefty wanker from Brussels will declare ASBOs as an act against human rights before long.
Quite simply they do it because they know they can get away with it. Mann will return to the UK and serve 3 months of his 2 years. The thugs will continue. Our lives will continue to be blighted by low-level crime, vandalism, and drunkenness. And guess who will be doing it? Our kids, yours and mine who we never said no to, who we never smacked, who got everything, and who sat in their bedrooms watching Hollywood blockbusters and eating processed food in front of a PS fucking 2 . And all because we failed to have discipline at home then failed miserably to instil it publicly.

You like to quote a bit of Floyd around here well try this. “ What a surprise! A look of terminal shock in your eyes, I have looked over Jordan and have seen…things are not what they seem”.

Jesus,I thought my outlook on things was bleak, but you're in full Roger Waters/Morrisey mode. I'd knock a few large ones down and see if that lightens the mood.

The fact that it's not a specifically English problem is largely irrelevant to me as I live in england and am I subjected to the English media.
While I agree that these thugs are present in every town centre every w/e up and down the country these particular incidents we are talking about are related to football. Although they were not that close to the stadium's, they occurred in the the country hosting the championships and were carried out by people wearing their country's colours.
You're right that I've never been to Turkey, any where you have to shit in a hole in the ground is too primitive for my list of holiday destinations.
Ranter? yes, pundit? no I was not commenting on the football, just the reports of hooliganism.
As for being a wanker, I can't speak for Jack, but seeing as my good lady wife has just entered the final phase of pregnancy "flying solo" is likely to be the only action I get for quite a while!

"left wing let offs and wishy washy judges and laws that only protect the criminal" too right! the law in this country is a shambles. Look at the sentences rapists and paedo's get compared with someone who does the government out of money, fraud / tax evasion etc.

The fighting fireman is typical of the hardcore organised thugs (see the Gary Oldman film The Firm) and as such has probably only got into Portugal by the fact he's managed to not get caught in this country so far.

With regards to "guzzle it now" ASBO's, crime, vandalism, and drunkenness. to quote Fatty Gilmore again,
"I have grown older,
and you have grown colder,
and nothing is very much fun anymore"
2 points if you can name that tune.
